Harden off the plants, bv moving them gradually to an environment more like the outdoor garden. This gives the plants a chance to slowly adapt it' the environment and reduces the shock.

— Do the transplanting on a cloudy day. in late afternoon or early evening so the vegetables will not have the sun's heat which can cause wilting.

— Soak the roots ot transplants thoroughly lor an hour or two belore setting them out in the garden.

— Handle the plants carefully. Avoid disturbing ihe roots.

— Dig the hole large enough to hold the roots. Set the plants an inch deeper than previously planted and at recommended intervals. Press soil firmly around the roots.

— Pour one cup of starter solution around each plant. A starter solution can be made by dissolving two tablespoons of a water soluble fertilizer in one gallon ol w a ter.

— Put more soil around each plant, but leave a slight depression for water to collect. Break off anv exposed parts of peat pots so that they will not act as wicks and pull water out of the soil.

— For a lew days after transplanting, shade the plants by placing a piece of newspaper or cardboard on iheir southern side.
