fter five months of work, the effort to establish an arts center in Rappahannock now has a name and a board of directors.
The slate of prospective board members presented by a nominating committee won unanimous endorsement from the audience at Monday night’s meeting in the courthouse. “We sought people who could accept a challenge...who have successfully ■ worked with others,” said committee chairman Mitzie Young. The proposed board represents a balance of the community including men and women, the young and not-so-young, landowners from every area of the county, natives and relative newcomers, but all people with organizational skills who are interested in the arts and are receptive to new ideas, she said.
The new board's first action was to pick a name. The Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community, a title that reflects the members' interests in both arts and community programs.
The board of directors elected Monday evening includes:
—Steve Scoggin, minister of the Washington Baptist Church,
—Sandra CartwrightBrown, proprietor and manager of the Conyers House in Slate Mills and an experienced fund-raiser who has served on the Washington, D. C., YWCAboard and numerous artsrelated boards in Washington state.
—Joy Turner Luke, artist, teacher and lecturer,
— Charlie Tompkins, professional photographer, blue grass musician and member of the board of directors for Country Roads,
