Win Awards
Wakefield freshman Amy Harris has won the Silver Maxima Cum Laude award, the second highest prize in the 1982 National Latin Examination which was administered to thousands of students from around the nation on March 3.
Eight other Wakefield students won prizes in the contest Magna Cum Laude award winners included Amy Lemly, Travis, Tisinger, Douglas Voeks, Josephine Rood, and Rod Early. Eighth graders Nancy Massie and Tara Welty received Cum Laude certificates for their performance on the examination.
According to Wakefield Headmaster and Latin II teacher William Lynn, the examination tested students not only on skill in translation but also on knowledge of Roman history and classical mythology. Lynn said he was extremely pleased at the performance of the Wakefield students.
