Capelle added that he’d requested reimbursement application forms from the Department of Corrections and would forward copies on to Rappahannock.
"We’re ready to help with the paper work and assist you in any way we can." Capelle said, winning a unanimous vote from the supervisors authorizing the planning district staff to proceed.
Turned Down Twice
Earlier in the meeting, sheriff Buntin reported that he’d called Fauquier twice last week with requests to house prisoners and had been turned down both times. One individual had been arrested for public drunkeness and was sent home with a friend when no jail space could be found. The second had been arrested for probation violation. Buntin said that the probation officer went before the judge who agreed to release the prisoner on a personal recognizance bond. "We’ve just been lucky but it's not going to last...Sooner or later, we're going to have to lock' somebody up," the sheriff warned.
Supervisor Charles Estes asked if it would be possible to get a temporary permit from the Department of Corrections to reopen the old jail here as an interrum measure until renovation can be completed.
