Fishing is big business. Also affected by the demise of fishable lakes and streams are sporting goods stores, bait and tackle shops, boat and boating suppliers, outdoor clothing and equipment outfitters, resorts, and real estate values.
The business supported or partly supported by sport fishing brings in tax revenue and provides employment. Sport fishing provides all-important relaxation and recreation for many. We all would be the losers.
Jack Lorenz, executive director of the lzaak Walton League of America, in a letter to the members of the Outdoor Writers Association of America has stated. “After several years of close study, I am now convinced that acid rain is the single greatest threat to the future of sport fishing in America.”
