Saturday morning in February of 1969 Judd and I packed up our horse and the race paraphenelia into the horse trailer and took off for the Casanova races. Dorothy drove behind as a safety patrol and Mikey Pearson (son of Ray Pearson the longtime Huntsman of the Old Dominion) freshly out of high school—was there to ride the mare. Nobody, I think, but Judd believed she would do better than stay the course.
