Wakefield School's literary magaazine, the Talisman, has won the Southern Interscholastic Press Association’s first place award for 1982 in the category of Literary -Folk - Art- Magazine.
The award is sponsored by the College of Journalism <ff the University of South Carolina and is presented yearly to the American high school and college which have produced a superior literary journal.

An appropriation of $35,000 from the Commonwealth of Virginia is allocated by a special Governor's Premium Committee and amounts to 24.9 percent of the total premiums for 1982. Open class competition gets $99,976 of the premiums and the remaining $40,203 is for junior classes.
Dairy breeds total $32,245 for the largest share of the premiums with beef cattle next with $25,675. Other major allocations are: sheep $12,457; poultry $7,858; swine $6,997, and farm crops $5,439. Another major item is $12,400 for the tractor pulling contest.
