I cannot tell whether it was the 1901 -62 or the 1962-63 season. The day felt like November, the warm coat was comfortable. The Old Dominion pack met at Colonel Clark’s Gate (now the Swain’s). I was “taking the hounds out” for Col. Hinckley, the then Master. A small group of old timers gathered to inspect, chat and follow. Will Putnam, one of Sterling Larabee’s first Huntsmen, leaning on his walking stick motioned a greeting with his head and, as I approached, introduced me to a powerful looking grey-haired man: “This is Judd Burke”, said Will. “Judd’s recovering from an accident and needs some light work".
