“Welfare programs are not popular programs. This isn't a welfare program. The department is not responsible for getting jobs for the unemployed," the food stamp worker emphasized. "This is a chance for the people of Rappahannock County to help themselves. We're not offering something for nothing. There are lots of people who want to work right now and just don't have the chance. This may help give them that chance.”
Moffett expects to get a response from people w ho are looking for work. "I don't know about the people with jobs to give." she said.
Employers with openings — full-time or part-time — may call Moffett at 675-3200 beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Monday. July 26. She'll take calls every weekday until 4:30 p.m. Job hunters may get on the "available for work" list by visiting the welfare office during those same hours. Only Rappahannock residents will be included on the * u nemployed list but offers of jobs w ill be accepted from outside the county. Moffett noted.
“If we only get three or four people jobs, it will be worth it but we're hoping we can do a lot more than that!" she concluded.
