The 17- year-old Loudouner. told the subcommittee in Leesburg that if farming is to stay a way of life in Loudoun and other fast-growing areas. the legislature will have to give local governments help in preserving farmland and controlling growth.
That was one of many messages delivered to Chairman C. Richard Cranwell. a House Democrat from Roanoke, and his subcommittee, which is studying the impact of recent court decisions on the zoning powers of local governments. The study group was established because of local governments’ complaints that court decisions have hampered their zoning authority and their ability to deal with grow th.
Officials from Loudoun. Clarke and Prince William and other counties told the subcommittee members what legislation they think the legislature ought to approve when it meets in its 1982 session next January.
