‘‘The building industry leads us into and out of recession,” Mr. Robinson stated, and that was why he supported a revision in the finance laws which will “give savings and loans a shot in the arm and get them back in business.” Mr. Robinson said the legislation will make more money available for homebuilding at reasonable rates. He previously had insisted that the depressed construction industry was responsible for the “largest chunk of unemployment in Virginia.”
Mr. Robinson’s mood about the economy was quietly optimistic, though, and he insisted the worst was over. Citing meetings with his Seventh District Economic Ad/isory Committee, which, he said, draws its membership from the largest employers in the district, Mr. Robinson said the mood of businessmen has changed.
