Allen Ladde Dear Chris,
Grandma had a stroke at the general store a few days ago. Now she is in a coma at the hospital and I will be living alone until you can come down. Please, come down soon!
You’re right, these things aren't tricks, and I don’t know what’s going on! The air in the house smells sour and flies are everywhere. I woke up last night with a three-inch tooth embedded in my leg. The tooth then disappeared after I pulled it out. It left no scar but a burning pain I still have. I'd swear that Grandma's clawfoot tub clawed at the floor and growled when I went near it.
This is not a joke, it’s real and I’ll be living in a constant state of fear until you get back. The local people think I’m on drugs or something. And the school headmaster says it's because I’m worried about Grandma. But nobody will help!
Those insects have gotten into all the food except my tomatoes and I’ve stopped going to school. They all think I’m crazy and now I’m beginning to believe them! Chris, you’ve got to get me out of here. I’ve got nowhere else to go.
Allen
