I looked at the clock. It was eight-thirty. In a few minutes, Sarah and Tina arrived. By nine o’clock, everyone was there.

First, we played games. Robert won every single one. After a while, the other kids got frustrated because Robert won all the games, so they decided to play a different kind of game. They wanted to play "skeleton in the closet.” I told them they could play while I got the last game ready, as long as they didn't destroy the cleanliness of the house. I didn’t' know they had created a different version of the game.

I went into the kitchen and started peeling grapes. They were supposed to represent eyes. Then I stuffed cotton into a glove. That was supposed to be a hand. The kids upstairs were making a lot of noise, and every once in a while I heard screaming. I went to the bottom of the stairs, and looked up, but all the lights were out. Someone ran through the hall. Slam! Someone shut a door. Someone else tried to sneak out of the room. Thud! Something fell on the floor. Most of the noise was coming from the guest room, which I couldn’t see from where I was standing.
