Ghosts and goblins are due to appear on county highways and doorsteps this weekend, and Rappahannock County Sheriff W. A. Buntin has some pointers for safe trickor-treating. “We encourage children to call on familiar homes in their own neighborhoods,” Buntin said. "Many parents just drop their children off in town.”
Although Buntin said he didn’t think that Rappahannock children had anything to fear from county residents as far as tampering with or poisoning Halloween treats, he urged parents to be careful. “You never known when someone could take off on the publicity given the recent Tylenol poisonings," he said.
Buntin also suggested that children be dressed in light colored clothing so that motorists can see them and that costumes be arranged so that children can see. He recommended that parents impose an age limit on trickor-treating.
