Hunt Postponed
The unexpected public reaction has caused postponement of the public hunt until after Nov. 4, when Dr. Wemmer and other officials of the National Zoo and.the Game Commission will present their case to a Congressional subcommittee in Washington.
Meanwhile, the controversy continues to occupy national attention with television cameras sharing the quiet fields with the exotic animals. The Humane Society placed a large advertisement condemning the hunt in The Washington Post on Oct. 25.
“This is taking up all our time," Wemmer said. Last week, he appeared before a gathering of concerned Friends of the National Zoo, an organization that supporis the work of the zoo, "I think it would be fair to say that most of those at our meeting opposed the hunt,” he said.
