Smithsonian officials agreed Tuesday to cancel the proposed deer hunt at the Conservation and Research Center near Front Royal. The hunt was originally planned to control the population of white-tailed deer that live within the Center’s boundaries and harbor a parasite that has proved fatal to some of the Center’s more exotic animals.
