He reported that he intends to have Spectra certified as soon as possible. "It’s a very slow process. We have to prove ourselves before certification. . . I’m now working with University of Virginia's and VPI's architectural departments to have them grant credit for courses taken through Spectra.”

Chandler said he intends to be one of the instructors at Spectra which, in addition to serving a school, will also be a practicing architectural firm. He noted that Will Hoare. a landscape architect in Flint Hill, wants to take a very active part in the innovative school. Others who have already agreed to instruct include a sculptor who is currently head of Old Dominion's art department and Not Putnam, local blacksmith, who has 14 years teaching experience. Chandler said. He added that he has commitments from other architects to lecture. "We're looking for teachers in almost anything—from pottery to reading.” he said, emphasizing that Spectra will offer a program for "the total individual."

Part of that program will be community projects, particularly in historic restoration. Chandler told the BZA. He assured the board that he will come back for the necessary permits to build (Continued on Page 2)
