I an. just as concerned with real victims of crime as you, and I think of them every time a prosecutor nol proiiei without compelling reason and every time a judge suspends another sentence.

But a Victim Witness Program in Rappahannock? It would never be operated on one-half of S20,000 (the other half for Fauquier). That S10.000 is just your wedge to get the program started here. You have already alerted us to what would follow: a separate “Director” in short order for each county; “terrific case loads” with moaning about “understating”; more paid assistants because there is no “host of volunteers” in Rappahannock for such a program (we have seen this demonstrated in the case of the schools here, as opposed to counties such as Fairfax and Loudoun where you can draw on a large and varied population for volunteers).

My suggestion to the supervisors: look to your real priorities at budget time and leave any misplaced compassion for ex-Mrs. Gregorys at the court house door when you enter to set our tax rate!
