But as welcome as good hunters are, they’ll be barred with the few slobs if something isn’t done to curb the flagrant abuses of deer season. And it’s the ethical sportsmen who can provide the most effective deterent. They can ostracize the slob hunters, by refusing to be a party to hunting violations. If that doesn’t work, they can report violations to the proper legal authorities, either game warden Jim Bankston or the Rappahannock sheriff’s department.
It’s important, however, for both landowners and sportsmen alike to remember that filing a complaint against a slob hunter isn't enough. In almost all cases, they have to be willing to testify against the offender in court. Otherwise, the complaint is just an exercise in futility.
The welcome mat is out to hunters in Rappahannock County—but only to the law abiding, ethical hunters. We must see that the message gets across to the slobs, the deer killers, who are sportsmen in name only.
