Rappahannock’s runners finished a close fourth in the regional cross country championships held last Wednesday in Charlottesville with just three slim points separating the Panthers from second place.
The boys from Buffalo Gap in Augusta County, undefeated during regular season competition, took the regional title, compiling 47 points. Runner-up was Stonewall Jackson with 65 followed by Strasburg with 66, the two Bull Run teams reversing the places they held in the district final of the week before. Rappahannock tallied 68 points.
Scott Keithley paced the Panther pack, covering the Piedmont Community College course in 17:36 for third place. He came in behind Stonewall Jackson’s Timmy Holler (17:09) and Shawn Lohr from Strasburg (17:28), the same duo that outraced him to the tape at the district meet.
