on October 22 is a $1.5 million grant from the Environmental Protection Agency channeled through the State Water Control Board. The grant application for which the senator’s support was requested is the $478,193 sought from the Community Improvement Block Grant Program, not the SWCB.
Initially, the announcement of block grant awards was expected to come from Governor Charles Robb's office in the first week of November. Russell Owens, associate director of project information for the Department of Housing, said on Monday, however, that the application review process was still going on. “We haven’t near reached the end of the tunnel yet,” he said, estimating that the winners of the block grant awards will be announced in late November.
