detailing the daily use of high school rooms. Estabrook's figures, confirmed by RCHS principal Robert Chappell, show that 96 percent of the rooms at the high school are in use all day. The other four percent, he said, were specialty rooms and not suited for constant use, for instance, a building trades shop and classroom.
Tied in with the issue of school space use is that of expected population trends. Estabrook told the board that, according to planning statistics, the Rappahannock school age population will not increase markedly before the year 2,000. “So we’re not planning for a huge increase in students,” he said. “We’re trying to correct space problems that prevent us from improving our curriculum.”
