Local economic indicators— county building activity and tax collection— continue to remain brisk despite the 11.1 percent unemployment rate for November released last week.

Rappahannock County is experiencing a definite upswing in renovation activity, according to the number of permits issued from the zoning administrator’s office in calendar year 1982 compared to the total from 1981.

Rappahannock residents were granted 159 building permits in the year just completed, compared to a last year’s total of 127.

New house construction decreased slightly, with 30 permits for new houses compared to 37 last year.

Rappahannock County is part of Planning District Nine, which reported this week that the total number of new housing units in the fivecounty area represents a decrease of 22.5 percent from 1981 and 40.5 percent since 1980. Culpeper County
