to hear of the sudden death of James Edward Harris, 48, who died Friday morning, January 20, from an acutd heart attack. “Jamie” as Mr. Harris was affectionately called by everyone, was known far and wide in all walks of life for his amiability, kindness, charity, gentleness, and loyalty. »
The Panther girls of Washington High School held on to defeat Marshall High School 32-28. Eloise Estes led the Panthers with 14 points. The Panther boys lost their game to Marshall after Charles Scroggins and Winfrey Burke fouled out. For the first three quarters, the score remained tied. The final score: 38-30. Mrs. Susie Pullen felled a skunk and a rooster with the single shot. According to Mrs. Pullen, the two critters were engaged in a furious battle when her flashlight spotted them in the hen house amid many disturbed chickens. She lowered her gun and fired, killing both instantly. A winner in the fight was never decided said Mrs. Pullen.
