showed a decrease of 36.2 percent in new construction activity, the biggest gap in the district over the two year period. Rappahannock’s decrease of 18 percent is typical for the rest of the district.
What Rappahannock lost in new construction, it more than made up in renovation permits granted. The gain in 1982 compared to last year is over 26 percent. “If there’s a building slump in the county, you couldn't prove it by me,” said zoning secretary Sandra Cartwright-Brown as she gathered data for the zoning administrator’s annual report.
Centers of activity in the county are Sperryville, Washington, Flint Hill, Amissville and the CastletonViewtown area, each having dozens of building permits issued, with scattered activity in Woodville, the F. T. Valley, Chester Gap, Boston, Huntly and Rock Mills.
