Seven Virginia cattle organizations will hold their annual meetings as part of the 1983 Virginia Beef Convention at the Homestead Hotel on Feb. 10 and 11.
The convention is sponsored by the organizations in cooperation with the Virginia Cooperative Extension Service.
A day of annual meetings will be followed by a morning of educational programs on the theme “Producing for the Market.”
Annual meetings of the Virginia Cattle Feeders Association, Virginia Slaughter Cattle Marketing Association, Virginia Livestock Markets Association and Virginia Cowbelles Association begin at 9:30 a.m. on the first day of the convention.
The Virginia Beef Cattle Improvement Association holds its annual meeting at 10 a.m. before adjourning for the general session.
The general session features speaker Mary Garst, cattle operations manager of Garst Co., Coon Rapids, Iowa, a seedstock operation with 3,500 cows.
The Cattlemen’s Luncheon follows and features another Iowa producer Gene Wiese as speaker on the subject, “The Beef Industry and How to Get Your Share of the Profits.” Wiese is the past president of the American Hereford Association and a nationally recognized judge of beef cattle.
The Virginia Cattlemen’s Association annual meeting convenes at 2:30 p.m. and features speaker Dub Berry, executive vice president, National Cattlemen’s Association.
