(Continued from Page 1) extend the sewer system to some of the remote houses in the proposed service area? Can the septic tanks and drainfields at these remote sites be replaced or upgraded?
SWCB: With sewage disposal by drainfield, contamination of ground water in the area will continue, as the entire service area is served by private wells, most of which are now contaminated by infiltration from malfunctioning septic fields. To upgrade those fields is neither feasible nor desirable since the area is in Hood plain with poor soils for drainfields. Also, sewage disposal regulations would prevent upgrading or expanding, in most cases.
In addition, EPA has already approved the sewer line extension to these “remote” houses by its approval of the original facilities plan several years ago.
