fund. Rappahannock built three schools, the Flint Hill grade school, the Scrabble grade school, and the Amissville grade school. The Parents Civic League and the school board were successful in constructing a school on Piedmont Avenue, still standing now as a twoapartment dwelling. Three of the buildings had two classrooms housing seven grades. A fourth- the .Flint Hill black school, had one room that included grades 15. After the fifth grade, students were transferred to the Washington School to continue in grades six and seven.
Mrs. Price reports that dedicated teachers at the Washington School provided subjects for the students in addition to their regular curriculum. Some of the teachers gave training in music and voice, and arranged programs for the children to exhibit their talents.
An interested group of parents gave the children at Washington many extras. Often, the workroom was used as a kitchen as parents and friends served hot lunches.
