Subdivision Denied

“I’m gone, honey. . .Let’s get out of this county!” an angry William Guiford told his companion after getting a no from the planning commissioners on his subdivision proposal.

Guilford explained to the commissioners last month that he wanted to subdivide five acres off a larger parcel belonging to Mrs. Cooney Jones. The property, which is located in the hollow behind Foster Brothers Packing Shed, would then be conveyed to his mother, Guilford said.

He acknowledged that Mrs. Jones' husband,. Clarke, opposed the transfer and with Mr. Jones holding a life estate in the 102-acre tract, it might not be possible to gain clear title to the five-acre piece proposed for subdivision.

Last month, the commissioners tabled Guilford’s request for subdivision approval, pending legal advice.

“Can she (Mrs. Jones) subdivide five acres off 102?” Guilford asked last Wednesday.

“1 don’t think she can,” Miller replied.

“Not under our ordinance,” added Commission Chairman A. Y. Stokes.
