“No wine to go with it?” the cartoon figure quipped during the commodity surplus cheese distribution.
Local social services spokesman Sylvia Kreitler says there won’t be wine at her office Saturday, but something new has been added — powdered milk.
Each of the county’s food stamp households is entitled to one box of dry milk, a pound of butter per person and a proportionate amount of the cheese.
The distribution is intended only for persons receiving food stamps. No one else will receive any of the cheese, Kreitler says. She added that food stamp identification cards must be presented. Social services personnel will no longer accept drivers licenses or other forms of identification.
Volunteers have gone to Winchester to pick up the dairy products for Saturday’s distribution which will be held at the social services office on Main Street in Washington. Recipients
