Lewis C. Nelson, a former resident of this area, and a member of the English Speaking Union, in Washington, D.C. attended the gala black tie dinner celebrating the Bicentennial of the signing of the Treaty of Paris and Great Britain with author and historian, Alistair Cooke, in the Diplomatic Rooms of the United State Department of State on October 6. Among many distinguished guests was the British Ambassador, Sir Oliver Wright. Mr. Nelson is also the nephew of Mrs. Ethel Cooksey of this area.
On Thursday Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Bowey spent the day with Mr. and Mrs. Buck Ankers in Martinsburg, West Virginia. Sunday visitors of the Boweys were Mr. and Mrs. Delmas Russell of Woodbridge and Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Burner.
Sherman Davis of Durham, N.C. has been spending some time with Mrs. Julia Poe. Other recent visitors of Mrs. Poe were Mrs. Olive Ray and Dr. Brenda Ray of Richmond and Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Poe of Mt. Vernon.
Mr. Elliott Doyle was honored at a 90th birthday party in Culpeper given by Dr. and Mrs. T.W. Armstrong. Others present were Mrs. Elliott Doyle, Mr. and Mrs. Phil Green of Warrenton, Dr. and Mrs. Lewis Armstrong, Kenneth and Bradley and Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Kearney, all of Culpeper. Hope it was a happy one.
Mrs. Ralph Rowzie and daughter, Mrs. Linda Hann spent from Monday through Friday visiting Mr. and Mrs. William Richardson and family of Powhatan County.
