1. What prompted me now as in 1980 are my feelings of duty, honor and country. I have gotten to know the people of my district well, along with their values and what is important to them, since my introduction to the county 22 years ago in 1961. When I decided to marry and raise a family, I came to Rappahannock. 1 feel it is my duty as a landowner and responsible member of the community.

2. I feel I am qualified for the position for many reasons. I have many friends all over the county and can relate well with them regardless of whether they’re knee deep in a winter feed lot or at the controls of a 747. 1 have had the opportunity to experience much and feel qualified because my heart’s in it.

3. I support the goals of people concerned with our schools. I’m proud of the achievements we’ve made toward these goals. As for the particular “Rappahannock Citizens for Quality Education” requests:

“For this school year: Lt Study current vocational programs and explore possible alternatives. . .” I support. It’s part of everyday life, already taking place. The study of all programs never leaves the agenda of our administrators.

“2. Complete the cost assessment for high school addition, and apply for literary loan or other source of funds.”

Again, this is already happening. The school board presently has a trip scheduled for October 18 to visit neighboring counties to see how Stanley and Luray have done exactly what we may do. . . expanding into the gym and building a new gym. This idea has appeal because it minimizes new construction and there are numerous outfits that erect these structures quickly and at a low cost per foot of space. However, I will not jump until we have defined the landing, regardless of how long this is considered overdue. I w'ill avoid doing county business in a hurry as I would want to be just as proud of my decision ten years from now.
