It was the same in Sperryville. Hundreds more visitors drove to the little village in the shade of the Blue Ridge, attracted by fall’s color extravaganza or the Sperryville Antique Market’s first craft show. Peggy and Arthur Smith were hosts to the Washington Press Club for lunch at the Antique Market. The press clubbers joined the house tourers and then brought tourers back to Sperryville. They spent dollars for crafts and antiques and then stopped at the roadside ^stands for apples and cider, jams, jellies, butters and preserves.
Rappahannock County needs more weekends like last weekend. Clubs, groups and businesses should cooperate in planning more events that attract tourists and tourist dollars. That way, we can keep our economy healthy while preserving and protecting the rural beauty, character and lifestyle we have all come to cherish.
