strictions) are of little value to the fanner without landuse taxation—which taxes land on its current use and not on its potential use. 1 support land-use assessment in theory because it forces all taxpayers to help bear the cost of our scenic meadows, mountains and orchards. But I am not familiar with the fine print of Rappahannock’s current land-use ordinance and can not say if I support all its provisions.

However, I pledge that if elected supervisor no application for land use taxation will be made on land owned by my wife.

10. a. Maybe.

b. Not now. Today owners of motor vehicles in this county are paying too much in personal property taxes. That rate should be changed (which means reduced) to coincide with the real estate tax: so much per $100 of fair market value. If that change were made, I might favor increasing the license tax to $20.

c. This requires some study but I do not now oppose the idea.

d. & e. These two together constitute an honesty tax. We had it before and God alone knows how many tractors, plows, bulls and cows were never declared. It didn’t work before and it won’t work again.

f. Not if we also have a business license tax.

11. Improvements to the courthouse will satisfy the judges for now, but sooner or later they are going to come back and ask for more space.
