state’s temperature standards are unreasonable—requiring the shelter to be warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer than most homes in this county. I can not support such nonsense and would work to get the state’s standards made more reasonable. I do favor building better facilities to house stray animals than we now have. I do not favor a Rappahannock Hilton for dogs.
6. Public input should always be sought by the Board of Supervisors before filling ANY position. That means advertising the upcoming appointment in advance and then listening to what people have to say.
7. The state requires reassessments every four years, but permits smaller counties such as Rappahannock to request a deferment. Our last reassessment was started in 1980 and left a great deal of bitterness in its wake. That reassessment did not appear on our tax bills until 1982. I would certainly expect the tax bills due in 1985 to reflect a new assessment.
8. I don’t know. Sperryville’s sewer system is likely to require some sort of administrator who is available every working day. Also, I do not like the current system of a part-time zoning administrator’s office. But I do not know if the voters of this county are ready to make so fundamental a change in our form of government.
