Lewis Smith

Lewis John Smith, 74, of Boston, died on Sunday, October 16, 1983, at University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville.
A native of Madison County, he was the son of the late Charles William and Lydia Susan Alger Smith. He was a retired farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Sarah Jane Miller Smith; one son, Steve Allen Smith of Culpeper and a daughter, Mrs. Virginia Frances Whetzel of Leon; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Jane Jenkins and Mrs. Pamela Corbin, both of Etlan, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday at the Geest-Johnson Funeral Home by the Rev. Harold Eaton. Burial was in Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery at Aylor.
Pallbearers were Hughie Smith, Frank Leathers, Thomas Smoot, Charles Seale, Donald Lamb, Thomas Jenkins, Roland O’Donnell and Robert Johannis.
Mabel Meredith
Housewife
Mrs. Mabel Harless Meredith, 69, of Culpeper, died Saturday, October 15, 1983, at a Charlottesville hospital.
Mrs. Meredith was a native of Lee County and a daughter of the late Nick D. and Janie Godsey Harless. She was a housewife and a member of Etlan Free Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Edward Stanley Meredith of Culpeper; seven sons, Hughey Stanley Meredith of Woodville, Leonard Meredith of Orange, Gene Meredith, Thomas Meredith and Robert Meredith, all of Culpeper, Billy Meredith and Larry Meredith, both of Reva; two sisters, Mrs. Reva Burnette of Duffield and Mrs. Lizzie Edwards of Pennington Gap; seventeen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at the Clore Funeral Home Chapel in Culpeper on Tuesday by the Rev. Percy Bane of Etlan. Burial was in Woodville Cemetery.
