Linda’s shop — Homestream Designs — has been opened since this summer. The name is a translation from the Dutch of her last name, Heimstra.
A resident of the county for the past six years, she’s launching a second career simultaneously with her sign shop. She divides her time between painting and rehearsals of the Modern Tribal Orchestra, a new local band that features Linda, Julie Coon and Cathy Kiley on vocals, Bill Abernathy and Vincent Day on guitars, Steve Lann on bass, Mitch Hostetter on tamberine and Steve Hostetter on drums. The group has attracted an enthusiastic circle of fans after its performance at the 4th of July costume ball sponsored by the Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community.
