Last weekend offered a perfect example of the type of “light industry” — tourism — that can and should be attracted to Rappahannock County.
Hundreds of house tourers jammed the Trinity Parish Hall to choose from the more than 4o() dried flower arrangements on display there before trooping through the three lovely homes opened to visitors.
Before, after and in between, they browsed and bought in the town of Washington’s shops. They purchased box lunches at the church or dined at Nature’s Cafe or the Black Kettle. A lucky few with reservations stayed for dinner at The Inn.
Driving to the tour homes through Flint Hill, they shopped for antiques and apples and stopped for a bite at the Corner Post or returned later that evening for a meal.
It was wonderful to see. The streets of Washington were bustling. The businesses were busy. Even kids were selling peanuts and fruit. Kv
