Rappahannock Lions Club president Paul Nichols says the club spent two weekends at the Keezletown Canneries near Harrisonburg boiling apples and even burning their noses in preparation for the current annual apple butter sale.
The Lions prepared 752 quarts—that’s 188 gallons of the sweet stuff using a secret recipe from apple butter chairman Raymond Johnson.
Apple stand chairman Carson Johnson says the Lions sold about half of this year’s supply at their stand in front of the new school bus shop building last weekend. “It was a pretty good weekend,” Johnson said, "Very successful.”
The sale continues this weekend Saturday and Sunday from 10-5. Besides the famous apple butter, the Lions sell pecans, pumpkins, apples, Indian corn and brooms.
