Guy 0. Farley of Warrenton, Slaughter’s principal challenger for the GOP nomination, said Wednesday morning he has not decided whether or not he will stay in the race.
Farley said he would meet Wednesday morning with advisers throughout the district before making a decision. “I’m going to be getting a statement out this afternoon,” he said.
But Farley said his campaign’s count indicates Slaughter has 143 delegate votes, “not enough to win on the first ballot.”
He admitted, however, Slaughter’s lead is “pretty substantial.”
