(Continued from Page 5) line this year. Dennis Wingfield of Sperryville will be running his first 10 kilometer race. The history teacher and sponsor of the high school’s Student Council is competing to raise money for a new RCHS trophy case. His students have pledged so many cents for every mile their teacher finishes. “I’m going to do it. I’ve been jogging a little bit,” Wingfield reported, noting that he ran around Old Hollow last week, a 6.4 mile circuit. “There’s no doubt I’ll make it all the way but I don’t want the trophy case to read ‘In memory of...’ ” he added, chuckling.

“I’m way up in years compared to some of the runners. No one could be more out of shape than I was for years and years,” Wingfield continued. “I just want to be respectable—whatever that means!”

He reported that he’ll try the Fodderstack course for the first time this week in training. “I know it’s got one monstrous hill. But with all due respect, I’m going to have to conquer it one way or another—running, jogging, walking or crawling!”
