Planning Goals
The aims of York’s planning process are:
(1) To preserve and restore buildings and archeological sites within the dty limits and to plan development there and for a large section of land, a war-time airport, owned by the city but several miles outside it. (2) To attract and hold business in the city (3) To cooperate in the preservation of farm land in the county which comes right up to the city and may stretch into it (4) To provide housing for residents within the city (5) To accomplish these ends by working with businesses, national and local historic preservation institutions and within budgetary constraints imposed by local taxes, national grants and private charitable contributions.
We first heard from John Shannon of York and Graham Ashworth, a university professor concerned with land use and community planning. It was he who had made our visit to York possible.
