In spring time, fancies turn to vandalism in Rappahannock, judging by the senseless epidemic of destruction that has struck here.
Last month, only three mailboxes were left standing in Harris Hollow. Sometime over the past weeks, vandals took the trouble of hiking around the exercise trail at the county park in order to tear down signs at the exercise stations along the way.
For decades, traffic signs have disappeared into the bedrooms and garages of teenagers who think the ultimate in interior decorating is to hang a big red octagon that shouts “Stop” on the wail. But this year, who ever is knocking over the highway signs is not even bothering to take them home. The broken signs are just left in the ditch or tossed over an embankment.
