“With the town’s water system, I don’t think we need a whole lot more land to have developed,” Washington Mayor Newbill Miller maintained as representative’s from the Town Council and Board of Supervisors agreed on official town boundaries covering less area than the Virginia General Assembly authorized for Washington almost a century ago.
Miller and Councilmen Turner Updike, and Brad Fisher met last Thursday with Supervisors J. R. Latham, Hubert Gilkey and Nelson Lane to work out mutually acceptable limits for the town of Washington. At the close of the threehour session, the group decided to endorse lines that follow to a “reasonable degree” what is now accepted by town residents as the boundary and are “reasonably dose” to boundary points set by town markers.
