Mayor Kramer kicked off discussion of the town water supply.
“We probably should not ignore what could be a threat to the water supply,” he said, alluding to potential commercial development of the former ski area in Harris Hollow.
Councilman Wickens then submitted a six-page proposed ordinance that would enable the town to exercise its authority to protect public water supplies and water works.
The councilman’s draft states. . . “the town of Washington has the power to prevent the pollution of water. . . within the corporate limits... and for a radius of five miles around the Town of Washington pursuant to Section 15.1292 of the 1950 Code of Virginia....”
Council agreed to study the proposed ordinance draft and discuss specifics at its next meeting.
Councilman Wickens led a discussion on enacting an ordinance to protect Washington’s historic character.
