In her five years here, Sharon has not lacked energy, she has planted trees to the local birds. “Hollies, fruit trees, mulberries-that’s what they like.”

She also put in a birdbath with a heater for year-round bathing. “People don’t realize how important this is around here, where the streams and ponds are completely frozen for much of the winter,” she said. Other birds leave Dogwood Hill in the Fall to stay in South American for the winter. For these summer guests, Sharon tries to duplicate the bathing conditions of a South American rainforest. “They like to have water dripping on them, just like in their early spring home in South America,” she sfud. So for her warblers, just back from the south, she has rigged up a “shower” of a gallon container with a small hole to drip into the birdbath.
