After a while, the parents gather the food and encourage the young birds to fly to them. This stretches and
strengthens their wings and teaches them how and where to find food.”
The wrens will raise two families in a season, Sharon said. Their eggs are white with brown spots. In their nest right outside Sharon’s front door, the little wrens seem not at all disturbed by anyone coming and going.
“Of course, sometimes I have to water the plant,” Sharon said. “I try to wait until the mother leaves for a few minutes and then I quickly water it while she’s gone. That’s how I know there are eggs in there now.”
Shortly beyond the front door and the rtfechia plant are more of Sharon’s favotfte birds. At the feeder are whitebreasted nuthatches, some of them feeding upside down. “They’re called the clowns of the bird world,” Sharon said. “And this name suits them perfectly.”
