Franklin Schmidt authored an article in last week’s issue “Should We Be Bold?” Yes, vie (the Rappahannock News) should print in bold face the names of those convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol. Not because it is additional punishment, as David Konick believes, but because it will help the drinker.
I am not thinking about the occasional drinker who just happened to get caught, but the chronic one who must come face to face with the real problem, which is drinking.
This person has family problems, medical problems, work problems a litiny of problems and, believe it or not, publishing the name in bold print is a good start toward solving all the problems.
The person with a drinking problem has a defense and that is denial.
The drinker rationalizes that “everybody drinks,” that he is just unlucky in getting caught.
