Then tragedy struck. Darcy broke her leg at the elbow a yearand-a-half ago.
The Alexanders took her to New Boulton, Penn., where surgery was performed. Two things complicated this already tender situation: a blizzard was sweeping the east coast and Darcy was nine-months pregnant.
A 12-inch steel plate secured by 13 screws enabled this sturdy Arab to go home in two weeks. She delivered a filly on-time, with no complications.
Mrs. Alexander began riding Darcy months later, gradually bring her back.
In May, Darcy completed the 50mile Liberty Bell before finishing in the top ten at the Old Dominion Endurance Ride this spring.
Endurance, Arab owners say, is one great attribute of these horses.
Mature With Age
