This weekend’s films to be shown at the Gay Street Theater represent a variety of efforts by American artists that create and preserve this country’s folk heritage.
The featured film is “The Weaver’s: Wasn’t That A Tune!”, a documentary of the group of four musicians who practically invented the folk music movement in the 1960’s.
With hits like “Goodnight Irene” and ‘This Land Is Your Land,” they combine history with stirring music and heartfelt sentiment.
The film provides vivid portraits of each of the individual singers, and concludes with their combined reunion and final performance at Carnegie Hall in I960.
